Review: To the Cliffside

Ever since she was a child, Morganna Cook has been able to heal people. But her mother frowned on the use of her gift and Morganna never knew anyone else with special abilities. Until she moved in with her long lost cousin Maeve. Morganna has agreed to help Maeve run the family's Bed & Breakfast in a small coastal town --which turns out to be full of people with supernatural gifts.

Morganna makes good friends and real connections for the first time in her life. And she even finds a man that lights her fire: the mysterious and sexy Callupo. But things quickly go awry when an evil magic-user returns to town, bent on stealing a special amulet. Morganna needs to shore up her abilities quickly to help defend her cousin, her new friends and her new town.

There were things I really liked about this book. The story was interesting and the hero was intriguing. The secondary characters were fleshed out and added alot to the story. And the writing was good... for the most part. But there were some very abrupt scene changes which left me disconcerted. We'd be right in the middle of a scene and then it would be the next day -- or several days later and we'd jump into the middle of something else. There were also times that the author opted to summarize or gloss over pertinent developments instead of letting us watch the events play out.

Morganna makes for a likable heroine... even though she is yet another one of those 24 year-old virgins. The sexual tension is good between her and Callupo, but I must warn you, there is no sex in this book.

I think there is potential in this ongoing series. The characters were good and I was interested enough to want to find out what happens next. It just had some issues that took me out of the reading experience. 3 1/2 stars.
