Lessons Learned From DragonCon
I'm back from DragonCon... tired and sore in a lot of places. This is thanks in no small part to four days worth of walking and several Buckets O' Rum.
It was great fun, but also an educational experience. Just in case you're thinking of attending next year, it feels only right that I share some of the many lessons I learned.
1. There is someone for everyone. Whether you're sexy and buff, short and fat, cool, lame, tall, skinny, geeky or whatever, there is someone out there who is your perfect match. If you like to go steampunk... be an elf, a zombie, or even be naked... there is somebody out there willing to do it with you.
3. If your belly hangs over your pants/ skirt/ speedo... you need to wear more clothing. One might think this would go without saying. One would be wrong.
5. No matter how hard you work on your costume, someone nerdier than you will find a detail you got wrong. Sitting in the bus, passing a guy in an awesome elf-warrior costume, the douche next to me turns to his friend and says, "Yeah, he makes a pretty good (whatever the hell he was) --but he got the sword color wrong."
6. Body odor and patchouli do not create a marketable fragrance. Seriously. Take a bath.
7. Those platform shoes probably seemed like a good idea an hour ago, but my tennis shoes will keep me from needing a wheelchair tomorrow.
8. If you wear lycra pants and you don't wear a cup, everyone can see your dangly bits. Really, this should have been #1.
9. Yes, everyone can smell your nasty fart. You're not fooling anyone by ignoring it.
10. Have your camera ready at all times. You never know who or what will be around the corner!
*More DragonCon fun to come... including celebrity sightings, my moment with Joe Manganiello and panels with the True Blood cast, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Laurell K Hamilton and others!

Hahaha, I should have done a post like this after going to Comic Con. I'd see girls wearing these crazy outfits and shoes and I couldn't help but wonder how sore they'd be in the morning.

OMG, wow those pics are interesting.... Honestly I can't wait to read more, I really wanna hear about your moment w/ Joe Manganiello! Book Savvy Babe
Wow, that would make me want to wear an outfit with a sign "TMI: TOO MUCH INFORMATION!" that I could flash at people. The lady who painted herself is really pretty and the paint is cool but really, put on a shirt!
But people like that are around for bad days when you need a laugh :D
Looks like you had a lot of fun!
April @ My Shelf Confessions
LAMO!!! AWESOME post. Can't wait for more coverage.
I have never been to a convention. In fact I was googling conventions just before. I really want to go to one. I wish there was a calendar of them especially by area.
Looks like you had an awesome time oh and dangly bits lmao
OMG! What an awesome post :) I cannot believe some of those pictures.
Thanks guys! It was so much fun. I'll probably have DragonCon posts for the next few days. (Hopefully, you won't get burned out!)
Jessica: Check out Parajunkee's convention breakdown... it may help: http://www.parajunkee.com/2011/08/book-blogging-101-conference-schedule.html
LOOLOL This made me laugh. Sooo many wacko costumes.. or lack of.
Love this! Lessons learned...
There really is someone for everyone...no matter how strange those people are. LOL. The angry birds costumes cracked me up!
I can't believe how much nudity you saw at this convention...where kids were at...eek! And the people wearing some of the outfits, just not right.
I must say while I would never be able to do it the girl in the body paint outfit was pretty awesome...the designs were just awesome. Still, never ganna happen!
Just so funny! Thanks for the lessons, I must reference if I ever make it to the event. :-D
