Review: Blood Avenged

If you're in the mood for a hot and sexy vampire romance, you need look no further. This book is hot, hot, hot. And that's not even all it has going for it.Vasilije is a vampire who has walked the earth for more than 400 years. And ever since the death of his sire, he's been bound by no one. He does what he wants, when he wants, including frequently siring others of his kind. But when he turns a young man who has caught his interest, he doesn't realize until too late that the man was already tied to Tatiana, another vampire. Vasilije and Tatiana already have a rocky history and this incident is the breaking point. Tatiana vows revenge and things go downhill from there.
Sasa is an empath living in New Orleans. She is indebted to a voodoo priestess who provids potions to her sick mother. So when Tatiana comes to the priestess for help with her revenge plot, Sasa has no choice but to cooperate. Tatiana killed one of Vasilije's vampire children. And Sasa is supposed to spy on Vasilije as he works to solve the mystery of the vamp's death. No one expects the instant attraction that flares between Vasilije and Sasa, but it is undeniable and scorching hot. Once Sasa starts falling for Vasilije, her loyalties become even more divided. And she must wrestle with her growing emotions, while knowing her mother's fate hangs in the balance.
I really enjoyed the story. The sex is really, really good. Super good. The characters are rich and well crafted. The world building is clear and easy to understand. Oh, and did I mention the sex? Rrraw!
But the ending really kind of threw me. Just when everything seemed to come together, the book took an abrupt turn that I didn't entirely understand. And the Epilogue did not fit whatsoever. I understand it was designed to set up future books in the series (which I would totally read) --but it stuck out like a sore thumb. The tone was a departure from the rest of the book and it felt like an afterthought that came completely out of left field.
But if you put the last 16 pages aside, I liked it quite a bit. This was my first Gabrielle Bissett book, but if this one is any indication, clearly I've been missing out. A little more than 4 stars.

I'm sorry!! But if it's any consolation, you have driven me to buy more than one book, lady!
