AAD Author Spotlight & Giveaway: Katie Reus

The lovely and talented Katie Reus is joining us today to talk about sexy shifters and give away a copy of her new book, Alpha Instinct. Please help me welcome her to the blog!

Thanks so much to Jennifer for letting me guest blog with her today!

During my younger years, my parents were pretty strict about what my sister and I watched. So it’s no wonder that I ‘rebelled’, wanting to get my hands on anything I knew would be deemed inappropriate by my parents. This included anything to do with ‘monsters’ like vampires or werewolves. Thus began my love affair with all things ‘different’. I always felt bad that just because a being was different, they were deemed monsters. It just didn’t seem fair.

And werewolves or wolves have often gotten a bad rap. Look at Little Red Riding Hood or The Three Little Pigs. Bad wolves! Luckily the attitude toward paranormal beings, werewolves included, has changed over the years. There’s something so sexy about a man in touch with his more primal, animal side. With shifters, it’s easy to capitalize on that sexiness. If I had to choose my favorite werewolf (or lycan) from the big screen I’d go with Lucian (played by Michael Sheen) from the Underworld series. If you haven’t seen the movies, please don’t read on because I’m about to give some spoilers. Poor guy was a slave to vampires from the day he was born and then when his affair with Sonja, a vampire of royal blood was discovered, he had to watch her die knowing she carried his unborn child. So cruel! But he loved his ‘people’ and looked at the big picture when it came to them. He was a great leader. And for all the centuries he was alive after Sonja’s death, he never forgot her. Sexy. Lycan.

In my upcoming Moon Shifter series from Signet, the majority of my characters are lupine shifters (wolf) and all the males are pretty damn sexy. Connor, the hero and Alpha of his pack, knows what he wants in life (or maybe I should say who) and he’s not afraid to after her. Writing this series has been so much fun and I’m very excited that Alpha Instinct is finally here (it releases in a couple days!).

So what about you? What do you like about shifters? Two readers who comment on the blog will be randomly selected to win a print copy of Alpha Instinct (US & Canada eligible only). Good luck and thanks so much for stopping by!

Alpha Instinct official blurb:

Fear has a scent. So does desire…

Ana Cordona has been a strong leader for the lupine shifters who survived after all the males and most of the females in her pack were mysteriously poisoned. As tough as she is, with no Alpha male, the pack is vulnerable to the devious shifter Taggart, who wants to claim both their ranch and Ana as his own. When Connor Armstrong comes back into her life, promising protection, it’s almost enough to make Ana forget how he walked out on her before—and reluctantly accept his offer to mate.

The minute Connor sees Ana again, it reawakens a raw hunger. He must have her for his bondmate—his wolf cries out for it. But his human side knows he must proceed with caution because of their complicated past. If he is to truly have her body and soul, he must go beyond his burning desire and win back her heart. Whatever it takes, he is determined not to leave her side again.

But Taggart and his rival pack are not their only enemies. A human element in town is targeting shifters. Their plan not only threatens Ana and Connor’s future, but the lives of the entire pack…

This definitely sounds like my kind of book! I love a shifter book with both a strong Alpha male and female. Sounds like I'll get it with this book. Thanks!

Katie, my parents also monitored my TV watching but they left my books alone. Thank goodness! All they cared about was that I was reading.

Mine left by books alone too! If they hadn't, my mom probably would have realized that I was stealing her Harlequins, lol. :)

She is definitely no-nonsense. Their world and hierarchy is very defined and strict (and as she says on more than one occasion, archaic) so she's such a practical woman. She has to be for her pack :) Thanks for stopping by!

I love shifter stories. I love how the alpha males search and find their one true mate. I also like love stories where the h/h loved each other in the past. Thanks!

Shifter stories are my absolute favorite paranormal reads. Something about the animal characteristic blended with human wants and needs is just fascinating, and most times wildly imaginative.

Katie...You ask what we like about shifters. I haven't read too many Shifter books. I've read the Earthsea books, which includes shifting that doesn't always work out long term. I also liked the movie Ladyhawke--where he is cursed to become a wolf by night and she a hawk by day. The idea of being able to shift voluntarily is appealing but being cursed to transform into something else--not so much.

The thing I like best about Shifter stories is that though they act like the all big bad alpha that could sometimes really care less about finding his mate...once he does...he's all over her. MINE, MINE, MINE! He wants everyone to know it...and he treats her like his queen, the most precious thing in his world and he will do anything/everything to ensure she is happy, protected, and well cared for...forever. In their world there is no such thing as divorce, they mate forever. What's NOT to like about that?

I love shifters because they are uber Alpha and dominant. I love their sense of loyalty to their pack and protectiveness of their mate. I like heroes to be rough around the edges.

I love animals, so of course shifters are my favorite paranormals. Given a choice between snuggling up to a hot-blooded shifter vs. a cold vamp, you'd better believe I'm picking the shifter.

Shifters are so possessive and primal, I think that is what draws me. Doesn't every girl want her man to be a little like Connor/alpha were? Love the sound of your book! Hope it is a huge success!

Great article and the story sounds fantastic.
I like shifters because I think they bring a bit more intensity to the story due to the animal piece. Plus, the animal/shifter introduces a different dynamic to the story.

I love the "Underworld" series. I just watched the latest, "Underworld: Awakening" in the theatre. WOW. What's one NOT to like about shifters? Obviously, the best trait about them is that they change. There's a lot of power in that. What with Jacob's six-pack-turn-sexy-werewolf, how can we deny our following?

Thanks for a chance at winning this giveaway.
