AAD Author Spotlight & Giveaway: Bronwyn Green

Another AAD small press author is joining us today. Bronwyn Green is a paranormal romance author with several titles under her belt.  And believe me when I tell you, the heat factor is through the roof. Please help me welcome her.

Jen: I just finished Overlord's Chosen. We've got to talk about the sex. First of all, tell me what the experience is like for you to bring erotic moments to life on the page. (Is it ever awkward? Are you comfortable?) How do you get yourself in the frame of mind to write heavy sex scenes?

Bronwyn: That’s a very good question, but I’m not sure it has an easy answer. Mostly, it depends on the book. For instance, with Overlord’s Chosen, I so rarely knew what was going to happen before I typed it that was a surprise to me. I’d re-read what I’d written and think “Whoa…won’t be sharing this with the fam!”

Depending on my mood, it can be awkward. If I’m bad-moody or just not feeling like writing a love scene on a given day - hey…it happens - forcing myself to write one anyway can feel a little awkward. But normally, I’m pretty comfortable writing sex – unless of course, my kids are in the room. That always puts a damper on things – lol!

I don’t really do anything to get in the mood – I just try to focus on the characters and the scene arises from their individual personalities, backgrounds and the current situation.

Jen: Overlord's Chosen is a revised version of Overlord's Vessel. What are the biggest differences between the two?

Bronwyn: Well, there are far, far fewer split infinitives, that’s for sure – lol! Actually, the biggest differences are the addition of scenes that had been cut from the original.

Jen: Guardian's Challenge is Asher & Neeve's story. Do you have plans to revisit the Dark Destinies world beyond that? And if so, who will be the focus?

Bronwyn:  At this point, I have plans for five stories in this series. Joseph (who’s a huge part of Guardian’s Challenge) will have his own book, as will Micah’s sister, Tamara…and Micah’s missing brother, Collin. But who knows – I may discover that I need to tell a few other stories along the way.

Bronwyn Green
Jen: You've got several different series under your belt. Do you have a soft spot for any one in particular?

Bronwyn: This is such a hard question because I really love them all. But, I’m quite fond of Dark Destinies – the setting and the characters really speak to me. There’s an undercurrent of darkness and danger in these stories that (so far) hasn’t really shown up in the rest of my books. I’m also really loving the Witch Way series. They’re the kind of stories that make writing absolutely joyful.

Jen: Give readers the lowdown on the Witch Way series.

Bronwyn: I’ve always loved the idea of the magical meeting the mundane and all the insanity that would ensue. This series follows a group of women – two are sisters the rest are friends - who also happen to be witches. Each story follows a different woman on her rocky and usually awkward road to love. The first book in the series, Immortal Curse, is Emma’s story. She’s a reluctant psychic who’s stuck with the persistent, drop-dead gorgeous ghost of bitter Irish schoolmaster.

As a whole, these books are a little more lighthearted than the Dark Destinies series, though I have gotten a lot of reader mail about a specific scene in Immortal Curse that made people cry. And, if I’m honest, I totally cried when I wrote it. This series is also close to my heart because some of it is based on real life. For instance, the creepy abandoned schoolhouse in the book really exists. It’s a place where a couple friends and I went ghost hunting and where my father and uncles went to school when it was a lot less spooky. And the pink Ouija board belongs to one of my dearest friends. But alas, I’ve never stumbled across Ian. ;)

Jen: Let's hear about Phases.

Bronwyn: Phases is a multi-author collection from Resplendence Publishing featuring Abigail Barnette, Brynn Paulin, Cheryl Dragon, Kris Norris, Mia Watts and me. All twelve books involve shape shifters and ménages. It’s been fascinating to see all the different takes on the sub-genre, but the one thing they have in common is they’re totally hot! Well…that and a lot of guys. ;)

Jen: What are you working on right now?

Bronwyn:  Let’s see, right now, I’m working on several different things – a paranormal YA, a historical, and the next book in the Witch Way series. Rowan, one of the secondary characters in Immortal Curse runs into a bit of a problem when a protection spell goes awry, and she summons an ancient Celtic god. A very disgruntled, very hot Celtic god.

Jen: When people see your name on a book, what should they be expecting?

Bronwyn: You are the queen of the tough questions, Jen! Let’s see…readers should expect quirky and somewhat flippant women, sarcastic and often bitter men and a whole lotta heat between them.

Jen: What are you looking forward to most from AAD in New Orleans this year?

Bronwyn: Well, last year, some friends (Brynn Paulin, Jennifer Armintrout/Abigail Barnette, Mia Watts, Jessica Jarman and Gwendolyn Cease) and I did a karaoke party where we had an amazing time and gave away an iPad 2 along with a pile of ebooks to one lucky winner. This year, we’ll gonna do it again and do it bigger and better – and Kris Norris will be joining us! I can’t wait! You can also expect that we’ll be giving away another big prize plus a ton more books and other prizes! So if you’re coming to AAD 2012, start sending me your song requests now and I’ll do my best to make sure that we have them! I’m really looking forward to meeting more people as well as getting together with the new friends I met in 2010 and 2011.

Thanks so much to Bronwyn for chatting with me. You can get to know Bronwyn Green on her website and on Twitter.  And if you would like to get to know her work, she is giving away two of her books right now.  Just pick one of her single author titles and fill out the Rafflecopter form below. Two winners will be chosen. The contest is open internationally. If you give the book a try and you like it, please spread the word and post a review somewhere. Let's support our small press authors!

Hey, Bronwyn! LOL, I liked the first question the most! Hah, I've never really thought about that before...

My question is: Why paranormal romance/erotica? Why not a clean romance, or historical, or young adult? Lol.

Thanks for the giveaway!

Love the interview, but it just points out how much I don't know about writing. I've no idea what a "split infinitive" is.

@ Laurielu - Thanks for reading and I have to admit Phases was a fun project. :)

@ CYP - Thanks for stopping by and to answer your question, I started out attempting to write straight romance, but I kept getting these rejections that said "This is a great story, but it's too hot" so I decided to try to write to my strength which was apparently heat - lol. However, YA is my first love and I'm currently writing one. :)

@ JC - Good lord, don't get me started on split infinitives. ;)

@ jfort357 - Deadlines inspire me - lol! No, just kidding. Most of my ideas hit me in the shower, while I'm drifting off to sleep or driving. :D

@ elaing8 - Thanks so much for stopping by and reading! :)
