Review: The Bed and the Bachelor

Sebastianne Dumont is, above all, loyal to her family.  So when a villainous Frenchman threatens to imprison her father and conscript her young brothers to war, she agrees to his demands that she act as a spy. Sebastianne must infiltrate the home of Lord Drake and steal the special cyphers he has created for the English government.

She gets her foot in the door as a housekeeper, using a false identity. She actually does very well at the job, but it's far more labor intensive than she imagined. Her duties make it hard to search for the cyphers. But she finally discovers that they are hidden in a locked safe. From there, her goal is to get the key, which Drake keeps on his person at all times.

There is an undeniable attraction between Drake and Sebastianne from the start. And it's only a matter of time before they act on it. As Sebastianne develops feelings for her boss, it complicates her mission. But she can't lose sight of what failure would mean for the rest of her family.

I don't really know what drives these two to be together other than the physical. I get the lust, but it wasn't an obvious path to love. The sexual tension was good and the sex was hot. Of course, you want the happy ending for Sebastianne, because you can see her internal struggle. But Drake forgave her much easier than I would have expected. So overall, it was an interesting story... with solid sex and intrigue... just not the greatest love story. Almost 4 stars.
