I am so glad you enjoyed the book.

I picked up the Lord of Scoundrels a couple of weeks ago and I really liked that one too. --I'll definitely be reading more from Loretta Chase!Jen at Red Hot Bookshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01898978782639965956noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9185738780824295377.post-66208425128113155942012-04-07T20:53:47.963-05:002012-04-07T20:53:47.963-05:00I happened upon your recommendation on this book a...I happened upon your recommendation on this book and have just finished reading it. THANK YOU! I thought it was fantastic!

What really made this book stand out to me was the excellent prose; it was intelligent and clever and well-written, and I didn't find the characters silly or one-dimensional like in so many other books in this genre. Also, as the romance is drawn out (as they inevitably are), I felt it was done so with logic and depth, unlike other books where the reasoning for the lovers' separation is very shallow. I so empathized with the characters that at their first liaison, I felt heartbroken myself, because I knew as they did that it could never work. It was very well done.

I was also entranced by the world of a modiste in this era (the reason I decided to try it in the first place), and though Marcelline's attitudes felt perhaps anachronistic, I was delighted to see that aspect of history portrayed through her eyes.

In short, if this was an accurate sample of Loretta Chase's work, I'm going to thoroughly enjoy going through all the rest of her books.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
